Music Ministry at St.Stephen Church
At St. Stephen Church, the music ministry is given the mandate to musically reflect the uniqueness of who we are: i.e., a truly "full-gospel" Church that is sacramental and liturgical, while also being charismatic, as well as evangelical. These qualities are not mutually exclusive - indeed, they belong together and compliment each other perfectly. They are like three streams that flow together into one mighty river. "Convergence worship" is a popular term often used to express this coming together of the different streams into the one mighty river of God.
This results in music that is deeply reverent and worshipful, yet at the same time filled with the joy and life of the Holy Spirit, while also being grounded firmly in the Word of God. Because our services are liturgical, they are punctuated with meaningful and beautiful liturgical music. We also zestfully sing the great and incomparable hymns that the Church has given us throughout the centuries. At the same time we incorporate many of the wonderful modern praise and worship songs that inspire us to clap and dance, or perhaps to fall on our knees.
As a sacramental church, we believe that our worship service is a place and an environment where heaven touches earth as we glorify the Almighty God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Before each service, the music team gathers together in prayer to ask for God's anointing. We pray that the Holy Spirit will use us to lead the congregation into the very Throne Room of God, where we gather with all the angels and archangels and all the saints to worship Him. It is truly wonderful to be in God's presence!
